Eco-Friendly, Going Green

I have been seriously considering and looking into moving my knitting shop to all organic "green" materials. I don't think the "Green Peace" and "Eco-Friendly fads if you will are just fads, I think its a direction that young people such as myself are moving towards and is the future. Plus who wouldn't want to do what's better for the environment?! I've been pricing out and researching the different yarns and buttons I would be able to use and the prices aren't significantly different enough that I would have to jack up my prices and i'm hoping that with this move I can expand my shop to a new client base.

I also LOVE buying my supplies from ETSY and local purveyors. Right now i'm getting a lot of my stuff at the local Michael's but hopefully once I start getting my name out there I'll be able to make more connections with other local knitters and there is a great market on Etsy for Organic and all natural yarns.
These are just some of my favorites

I also am in the process of putting together a sample set of the yarns I use so people can really get a feel for them before they buy. I think i'm going to call it "Get a Feel for It" or something like that. I'll gladly take any idea's!!!

Cupcakes for breakfast :-)

So a quick little blurb before I dive into painting eggs this fine Saturday morning!
I took some pictures of my kitchen table (ie my Etsy office HA) before I picked everything up before bed so the cat wouldn't get into anything. I think this table does a good job representing my ADD as I have about 100000 projects going on at once!

And this was after I picked up most of it ....

Well off to paint eggs!!! Happy Bunny, Chocolate, and Egg day!!! Hopefully i'll be back on today and upload pics from the eggs, but i have a hair-dying appointment with Katelyn later then work so maybe tomorrow morning! <3 And once we finish my hair i'll make sure we take pics too! The goal is to go from the dark red black that is was all winter to bleach blonde with cobalt blue low lights <3 I'm very excited about it.

Starting new things Thursday

So after my complete knitting meltdown there other night complete with pathetic sobs I have taken a break from knitting (only for a few day) and started all new fresh projects.
I had been working on a light-weight summer cowl and had put about 40 hours into it and when I was casting off to finish I set my needles down (big mistake) and somehow I lost a lot of stitches and couldnt' go back and pick them up because the yarn i was using was a silk and bamboo blend and it just slipped all over the place and that mixed with a whole bunch of other set backs just completely got me down.
BUT YOU ALWAYS GET BACK ON THE BIKE!
So now with a fresh look on things, and some quality time with my sketch book I've got several new things i'm working on most of which is not going in my shop but are gifts for friends and once i find the right color i'm going to make myself a summer cowl.
I am also currently working on my biggest project yet. A baby blanket for one of my very good friends who is about to have a baby boy! I found some amazing cotton yarn that is durable enough to withstand baby puke and many many washes :-). The other things i'm working on are just small stuff, bracelet's and coffee cozies.

New stuff that's going on, not shop related, Glee was new this week, not my favorite episode but not bad. I love the message the show sends to young people and I wish there was a show like that on when I was in high school. And Darren Criss is just awesome!  I'm a huge fan of his and Starkid productions on the whole.
Big Bang Theory is as always AMAZING, KICK-ASS, INSPIRING, BAD-ASS, AWESOME, GREAT. Just fan-freaking-tastic :-) <3 <3 <3

On the bookside of life i just finished Sara Dessen- Along for the ride. A teen fiction, but It was really cute and kept me interested for the duration of the book. Not sure what i'm going to read next, my E-reader died a few days ago ... I might tackle Ancestors Tale next or the Origin of species.

I have tomorrow off so fingers crossed for getting things accomplished with the baby blanket <3

Obsessed with ETSY.COM

Etsy.com the Ebay of homemade and vintage items if you will. Not only do I have my own shop but I am totally addicted to browsing the site! The whole community as absolutely fabulous. I love that there is something for everyone, so many different styles, themes, just everything you could possibly want and more.
I just got a new apartment and am slowly and happily decorating. My living room and kitchen so far are a lot of blues and black and all of the furniture (kitchen table, coffee table ect) are bamboo. And I am hoping *fingers crossed* that the next thing I get is a Paris skyline wall decal for the living room ... so far there is zilch on any of the walls in the entire house.  One night while looking on Etsy for Paris themed items for my living room I stumbled upon this shop (wiwicoco - etsy shop) I absolutely adore the wall decal idea. It makes decorating a breeze and they are removable so you can do it in an apartment without having to go through to trouble of hanging pictures and leaving nail holes in your walls! Plus what an easy way to decorate and make an entire theme of a room!!!

Now that i've been lusting over things on Etsy I will pry myself away and work on my own projects :-)
Have a nice night!

Totally Twisted Tuesday!!!

Good morning Tuesday! Just as I have feared I haven't been blogging every day. So! Today I have a day off from work and i'd like to share whats going to be happening today. Usually on my days off I work on product for my ETSY shop, which is exactly what i'll be doing today. Well that and painting my nails but yea. Last night I went to Michaels' and got some Peruvian Wool, it is hot pink and I love it. Right now i'm playing around with different types of yarn to see what sells the best. I had a suggestion from a fellow Etsy shop owner that no one really buys things made with acrylic yarn. I am new to the selling things online world so i took her advice and i'm changing it up. I found some awesome yarn to!! Once I figure out how to post pictures i'll do that as well <3 I have also been knitting bracelets for my shop which i have a few that need to be finished hopefully today. And other than that not a lot has been going on here in East Tennessee.
Also today I will be applying to the local state university :-) Wish me luck!

So much for separation of church and state

I hate the south. I need to move. This is the stupidest thing I have read in a while.... so frusterating.
Well, even though I would be teaching English I know I will not be teaching in a state that pushes creationism as FACT! What about the kids in school who aren't christian or who are athesist??? Science is FACT not speculation and fictional stories!!!

Louisiana-style "teach the controversy" bill advances in Tennessee
By John Timmer | Last updated about 5 hours ago
Each year, dozens of states have bills introduced that target science education, mostly focused on the teaching of biology. Working off a template provided by a pro-intelligent design think tank, the bills would encourage the use of nonstandard teaching materials or targeted criticism of evolution; in some cases, they throw in climate change and the origin of life. In most states, they never make it out of committee, but Tennessee has made an exception this year, as the state's House passed a bill by a wide margin.
So far, the only state to enact a law that targeted "evolution, the origins of life, global warming, and human cloning" has been Louisiana. For the last two years, schools in that state have been able to approve supplemental materials that cover these topics, giving local authorities the legal (but not necessarily the intellectual) ability to decide what might constitute valid scientific criticisms.
The Tennessee bill is somewhat different; rather than seeking to introduce new material into the classrooms, it effectively removes the ability of administrators to determine how a subject is taught. No school authority in the state "shall prohibit any teacher in a public school system of this state from helping students understand, analyze, critique, and review in an objective manner the scientific strengths and scientific weaknesses of existing scientific theories covered in the course being taught." Even though it's supposedly about science education, there's an entire clause (one of only five) devoted to saying the whole thing has nothing to do with religion.
Tactically, that is probably a good decision for the creationists who are pushing for the bill. Supplemental materials are open to objective analysis of their scientific merit, which might go badly in court; verbal classroom instruction can be much harder to parse, and might come down to the words of students against those of their teacher. The shift may also be inspired by recent events in nearby Ohio, where a teacher was fired for conduct that included distributing creationist material to his science classes.
The state Senate is currently considering a similar bill. The National Center for Science Education is trackingthe events there and in other states.

Opening Day Friday!!

Not just opening day in Fenway but the first day i'm blogging!
Who knows maybe this will be a day of firsts, my first blog, and the Sox first win of the season <3
One can hope.

I really don't know what i'll be blogging about, but it will probably be a lot of random stuff and different on a daily basis. If I can update daily that is. I'll do my best!
Things you can expect from this blog....

*Random posts from ETSY.com, I have a  shop on the site and also LOVE browsing the other shops for fun one of a kind stuff!
*Random music videos or songs that I like. I'm going through a Wizard Rock phase again, so there will probably be a lot of that floating around, which is never a bad thing!
*There will probably be some fun and stupid stories from work, it happens when you work in retail. The stupidity of the masses is astounding.
*I will probably mention the Red Sox every so often!
*Books Books Books. I read A LOT which is good since I work in a bookstore. So i'll try and post what i'm reading and if its good.

... I can't really think of anything else. That covers most of my major interests for the time being.
